CHICO CHAVEZ was born in Lima, Peru in the bohemian, artistic and popular neighborhood of Monserrat "Cuartel Primero". Since childhood, he studied and learned a wide variety of rhythms, music styles, and percussion instruments. His creative and innovative technique, philosophy along with his performance expression is the result of many years of experience, performance, and studies with the master Afro-Peruvian musicians from the "Old School". CHICO's dedication to learn and explore roots music and world rhythms show in his unique sounds. He currently lives in Minneapolis, Minnesota. CHICO performs, teaches, records and produces with many national and international talents, from; Africa, Europe, Latin & North America, as well as, many well known local artists?. Some of CHICO'S accomplishments are; film festivals, theatres, directing contemporary jazz projects with fresh tendencies and leading percussion circles.? CHICO takes pride in educating and transforming elements to create a new generation of performers. ?
