This show will feature the music of Peter Shu. Called “Chino Latino” by his peers in the salsa scene, Mr. Shu will bring the arrangements from his latin jazz ensemble, The Chino Latino Jazz Project, with classic latin sounds from Cuba, Puerto Rico, Central and South America.
About Peter Shu: Born in Hong Kong, Peter Shu has been studying piano from an early age. A graduate of North Central University with a B.S. in music, and MMus from Boston University, Peter has toured nationally as a performer, producer, and clinician. His background includes choral and orchestral conducting, composing, arranging, producing, and film scoring. Trained by the late Bobby Peterson and Cuban piano maestro Nachito Herrera, Peter is proficient in many genres including classical, jazz, Gospel, Latin (Afro-Cuban), and Caribbean styles. Peter has worked professionally as a musician in the Minneapolis/St. Paul area since 1991, and worked in the worship ministries since 1993. Peter is currently the artistic director of Global Worship Movement, and on music faculty at North Central University. Peter resides in Minneapolis, MN with his wife Dannell.
About the Chino Latino Jazz Project: The Chino Latino Jazz Project (CLJP) is dedicated to presenting latin jazz in the dance styles of salsa, cha-cha-cha, merengue, cumbia, bolero, and rumba/bembe. Following in the traditions of Poncho Sanchez and Tito Puente in a small combo setting, Chino Latino specializes in both sophisticated and danceable arrangements. CLJP is proud to be featured with salsa and latin dance studios such as the Arthur Murray School, and the Dancer’s Studio. CLJP personnel includes an international cast of virtuosos from three continents.
About the Monday Featured Artist: JCS invites a local jazz masters to play and direct new collaborations.
This performance is followed by a traditional jam session hosted by the featured artist. Novice and experienced, are invited to play and hone their skills.
